About Us

President's Message 2008

I was honoured when my fellow board members asked if they could nominate me for President of our organization, and so it is with pleasure that I accept position and thank them for their votes of confidence. Yet the honour is not in the position, but rather in the duties. To be entrusted with the responsibility to stand as your representative in all matters large and small within the Del Monte Forest is a serious obligation.

In this election year, as we watch the primaries, we are overwhelmed with the mention of "public service" by every candidate, almost to the point of being immune to the very meaning. However, to serve at any level of government for the good of the community, is in my opinion, one of the highest callings an individual can heed; second only to military service.

So, I accept my responsibilities in earnest. But what is my role and that of the Del Monte Forest Property Owners? It is two-fold: Our role is to be the conduit for bringing forth the concerns of our constituents to the appropriate venue and making sure that fair and adequate attention is provided to those concerns while a solution is pursued.

Furthermore, our role is to protect the quality of life that we enjoy within the Forest and to try to leave the Forest in better shape than when we arrived. To fulfill these roles, we work closely with the Pebble Beach Company, the Pebble Beach Community Services District and all local government and law enforcement agencies.

We are a professional group who prides itself on being thorough and not prone to crying "wolf", and therefore we have the respect of the agencies with whom we interact and I look forward to maintaining those relationships.

During my stewardship, I hope that I make my fellow board members, my predecessors and you, my constituents, proud of my tenure when it comes time for me to pass the baton.

Sincerely,

Al Budris
President,
Del Monte Forest Property Owners

History and Purpose

The Del Monte Forest Property Owners was founded in 1951, as the Del Monte Forest Property Homeowners' Association. The name was later changed to be inclusive of the broader constituency of all property owners. In 1979 Del Monte Forest Property Owners incorporated under the California not-for-profit corporation law in order to gain the legal benefit of a more formal structure. Notwithstanding these changes, the purpose of our organization has remained constant:

To preserve the environment of the Del Monte Forest and retain its unique quality of life;

To promote and preserve the high standards of the residential community by cooperating in its orderly development and by obtaining additional community facilities necessary for the safety, comfort, health and welfare of the residents;

To promote harmony, civic enthusiasm and community pride.

We work to represent the interests of all Del Monte Forest property owners in dealings with both public and private sector agencies that influence the quality of life in the Forest.

We participated in drafting and fully subscribe to the Vision Statement for the Del Monte Forest contained in the Monterey County General Plan (Jan. 2002 Draft), which calls out the core values of the Forest to be:

Its identified significant natural habitat resources;

The unique character of its residential neighborhoods;

Its world-class status for resort and recreational facilities and activities.

We are currently pursuing over a dozen objectives to support these values. The more pressing of these include adherence to the Forest Plan agreement between DMFPO and PBC, implementation of the Wastewater Reclamation Project Upgrade, reconfiguration of the Highway 1 Gate/ Highway 68 interchange, improvement of ambulance response times in the Forest, PBCSD/Fire Department facility expansion, and sustainment of tree cutting regulations and forest health measures.
